Update on the Kiddos

Dawson @ 12 Weeks:
  • Dawson is such a champ. He is such a good baby and has a wonderful personality.
  • Last night he slept 9 hours straight! AmAzInG! He has been sleeping well since he was born but last night was just icing on the cake. The first night home from the hospital he even slept 7 hours straight. Some nights he does better than others, but I have absolutely nothing to complain about. If he wakes up he falls asleep while nursing and goes straight back to bed. This momma thrives on sleep. : )
  • Dawson is so strong. He has already rolled over from belly to back when he was just  3 weeks old. He loves to be held sitting up and if you put him on your shoulder he holds his head up on his own to look around.
  • He is on path to be bigger than Camp. At 8 weeks Camp weighed 13 lbs 10 oz and Dawson weighed 12 lbs 4 oz at his 6 week check-up. Camp even had 2 pounds on him at his birth weight! He had gained one pound per week for the last 4 weeks!
  • At his 6 week check-up Dr. Rule decided to put him Zantac for acid reflux. He doesn't have the projectile spit-up like Emma Claire and Camp did but his is the silent reflux. He would have episodes of choking and would scare us to death in the middle of the night. He would also scream out in pain often when laid flat on his back. He is doing MUCH better now and seems to be adjusting to the awful tasting medicine.
  • He is eating every 3 hours during the day and occasionally at night if he wakes up. I'm not sure how much he is eating but the other day I pumped a bottle and had 5 1/2 ounces in 5 minutes. I would say he is taking in a lot!
  • Dawson is very much a snuggler. Neither of my other two ever liked to be cuddled or be rocked but Dawson loves it. And..... Mommy loves it!
  • He is definitely already a Momma's boy! He loves for his mommy to hold and love on him.
  • Dawson is Camp's twin. He looks identical to what he did when he was small. Benjamin has some pretty strong genes in our family! ; 0
  • Camp and Emma Claire absolutely loved their swing. They lived in it every day and that is where they were the happiest. Dawson on the other hand doesn't care for it. He would much rather sit in his vibrating bouncy seat. I have tried to get him accustom to it so he will be ready for the infant room at work. After he eats he will sit in it for a few minutes with the music on but the swing part off.  Baby steps right?!
  • He does very well taking a bottle if I am able to pump. However, he takes it better from Emma Claire than he does anyone else. She is our official bottle holder.
Camp @ 3 Years 3 Months:
  • Camp....what can I say? This boy is FULL of it. He is so full of life and energy. He goes all or none.  Not in an uncontrollable energy kind of way; but an extreme intensity kind of way.  Everything he does is...well, intense!
  • Camp is our tender hearted one.  Don't get me wrong he is still very strong willed, but when he is punished it really breaks his little heart. He is much harder to punish.
  • Camp loves trains, balls, flashlights, riding his bike, watching Cars 1 & 2, playing with anything electronic, and playing with his big sister.
  • Camp adores Emma Claire. On the days she is at school he can't wait for her to get home and play. He plays very well alone but it's much more fun when she is home! Of course, they still have their brother/sister moments and that's all I'm gonna say about that!
  • Camp is doing amazing with his speech! In March he was only saying a handful of words and now he is singing songs and telling stories like a pro. I'll blog more about his speech progress later.
  • We never had terrible two's with Camp but I think we are having more of the terrible three's. He has begun fit throwing when he doesn't get his way and deliberately disobeying. There has been much more punishment here lately.
  • One of Camp's most favorite things to do is ride his cars bike. He BEGS to go outside and ride his bike even on rainy days.
  • Camp still has a great sleep schedule. He goes to bed at 8:00pm and sleeps til 7:30ish. He also still takes about a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. Every morning when he wakes up he stumbles in our room still droggy and says 'I had a hung rest, I want breakfast now.' Adorable. We have no clue what hung rest means but he says it every morning. If I asked if he had a good rest he will say, yes, so I'm assuming that is what it means.
  • Camp loves breakfast type food. In one day he ate waffles for breakfast, oatmeal for lunch, and cereal for dinner. I know, bad parenting, but I was having a bad day. He is still a very picky eater but making improvement. It seems to be more of a texture thing. He will eat certain things when we make him but sometimes they make him gag. He will do his best to chew and swallow them because Daddy says it will give him hair on his chest. : )
  • He is still in a pull-up at night. To be honest we haven't pushed it. He doesn't have accidents during the day so I'm happy. Every now and then he will have an accident during nap time but he is doing very well over all.
 Emma Claire @ 5 Years 10 Months:
  •  Emma Claire is still our princess. Most of the time you can find her wearing a dress, heels, jewelry, and carrying a purse. Of course there must always be something pink!
  • She is loving kindergarten and enjoys going everyday. They are beginning to read sentences and she is thrilled with her progress. At the first of the year she had trouble with getting her vowels but once she mastered that skill she has been well on her way!
  • Emma Claire still has a small petite build. She keeps asking me why her friends that are younger than her are taller than she is. ; ) She wears a size 4 pants in the waste but a size 5 in the length.
  • She is such a wonderful big sister! Emma Claire loves her brothers very much and is very motherly. They still have their sibling rivalry but many times you can find her helping Camp clean his room or singing to Dawson so he will stop crying.
  • Speaking of singing...and she LOVES to sing...we're thinking about singing lessons. ; )
  • Her new phrases are 'by the way' and 'just so you know'. Yesterday she told me, 'I don't think you understand.'
  • Emma Claire's favorite foods are pizza, spaghetti, chocolate gravy, and fish.
  • She has taken off on riding her bike without training wheels! Within a week she was riding it like a pro!
  • She and her daddy make regular visits to the Border (local greasy spoon) where she always orders 3 little pigs (sausage wrapped in pancakes).
  • Emma Claire still loves to dance. We plan to start hip-hop classes soon per her request. I'm not sure she will like it but we shall see!
  • She's funny about crowds and attention: She isn't shy at all when she thinks people aren't paying attention.  She sings to the top of her lungs, and dances her little heart out.  But the second the crowd turns toward her, she turns beat red, ducks her head, and clams up with 5yr old giggles.  Precious!
  • Emma Claire has really taken to arts and crafts. She will sit in her room for her entire 'rest time' drawing, coloring, cutting and pasting. Actually her drawing has gotten really good. Just today she looked at a picture of a cat and drew a picture that looked just like it. She definitely got her drawing skills from her daddy! ; 0
  • She has lost 1 tooth and has 3 more that are loose! I'm not ready for these big steps. It's all happening WAY to fast.

Emma Claire's 1st Field Trip

Today I got to go with Emma Claire and her class on a field trip to Amante's Pizza! It was so fun just being her mommy and enjoying watching her delight in her friends and learning something new. When we arrived they had the tables set up for them to 'design' their own chef's hat and apron. This was such a hit for the kids and was a great way to get them involved as soon as we walked in the door.

Bottom Right: This is sweet Mrs. Emily, who is also Camp's teacher, and her twin boys, Dylan & Josh.

Bottome Left: Me and my excellent CHEF! ; Bottom Right: The guy did a great job with the kids and really held their attention. To start making their pizza's he gave them each one big ball of dough.

Next he taught them the best way to mash it out flat.

Then he taught them how to hold their hands the correct way so that they could throw the dough up in the air and spin in out even flatter. (Thanks, Steph, for the awesome mid-air spin shot!)

Click Here to watch Emma Claire learning how to toss the dough.
Click Here to watch her try to toss it.
(I will add the videos once the finish uploading.)

Then they helped spread the sauce on their pizza and add the cheese. Emma Claire was so excited that she got to stick her hands in it and spread it all out!

Bottom Right: I love this picture because it just shows how Emma Claire's personality is. If you look at all the other kids they are ready to move on to something else, but Emma Claire is still working so hard to make sure her pizza is just right. I have walked by her classroom at school several times and seen her still sitting at the table working while her friends are moving on to something else. It's not that she is slow, but that she wants to make sure that everything is done exactly the right way and finished completely. She does not like to walk away from something unless she has completed it and completed it well.

It's ready to go in the oven!

It was such a sweet time to sit and watch Emma Claire enjoy the company of her friends, Liza and Alyssa.

Just look at this yummy pizza Emma Claire made! It was sooooo good.

It was so great to get to share this special day with our buddies, Stephanie and Abby Lyon!

Bottom Left: Emma Claire and her wonderful teachers, Amy & Kathy. ; Bottom Right: After we finished our pizza we had planned to have a picnic at the park, but because of all the yucky rain we decided to walk next door and let the kids see all of the animals at the local pet store.

This was such a great treat for them!

Emma Claire and Alyssa thought it was the greatest things to play with the stuffed dogs in the cages.

We had such a wonderful time on this field trip! So thankful to be Emma Claire's Mommy!

Drawing Time

My kids have really gotten into drawing and love to do it together! Camp will draw his own picture with circles all over it and Emma Claire loves to write names. This is the perfect activity for them to do together while I cook dinner.

Emma Claire has been writing her first name for several months now but just started today writing Claire and Quinn. Look how great she did all on her own. I wrote it for her one time and she did the rest! Way to go, Emma Claire!

Emma Claire at 4 Years Old

Emma Claire loves to live life and live it to its fullest. She gets so excited about everything she does and puts everything into what she is doing. I love to watch how excited she gets! She also has a HUGE imagination and delights in serving her brother. I am in love with this girl and love being her mommy!

Likes:
  • Emma Claire loves to play in her room with her barbies, dress-up dolls, and dollhouse. Often times she will ask to close her door so that Camp won't bother her.
  • Art. Emma Claire loves to do any kind of art. Especially when she can do it on her own and create what she wants to!
  • Helping cook dinner. Emma Claire loves to spend time with me cooking in the kitchen. She will put on her 'cooker bib', grab a chair, and ask "What can I do?" I love having her in the kitchen with me too.
  • Playing dress-up. Most days you can find her with her some type of 'spinny' dress on and her high heels.
  • Movies. Emma Claire is really into Toy Story 1, 2, & 3 right now. Her friends even call her Jessie at school.
  • Emma Claire LOVES her brother. She will do or give him anything to make him happy. I have seen her many times give him her last treat or break her cookie in half so that he can have some. There have even been times when we wanted her to do something and she wouldn't want to do it, but if Camp wanted her to she would jump right on it. She loves him so much, takes care of him, and has never been jealous of him one time. Their relationship has been such  blessing.
  • Emma Claire's teacher said that she thrives on learning. She loves to learn in class and really enjoys it. She said that I definitely need to have her in a classroom next year that is really academic. She really seems to soak up any learning opportunity.
  • Emma loves to help around the house. Just today she has loaded/unloaded the washing machine and then loaded/unloaded the dryer all by herself. I was even impressed with how much detail she went into her work with cleaning out the lint catcher before starting the next load. : 0 She also folds the towels and refills Camp's diaper holder.
  • We have begun to let her play games on our computer and that is a true delight for her. Although it's just for special treats it doesn't stop her from asking us pretty much every day if she can play on the computer.
  •  Emma Claire loves to sing and sing to the top of her lungs. Sometimes it's on key and sometimes it's not.
  • She loves to be outside and to go exploring. She is so eager to learn about the things in her surroundings.
  • Emma Claire loves to ask questions and lots of them. She really wants to understand the reasoning behind everything and sometimes that gets her in a little trouble with mommy and daddy. : )
Dislikes:
  • The great thing about Emma Claire is that there is not a lot of things that she does not like. She gets overly excited about anything whether it be a new pair of socks or a dessert.
  • She still does not like water in her eyes. We have to be careful bathing her because she flips out if we get it in her eyes.
  • Shots! The last several times we have been to the doctors office she has either gotten a shot, a flu test, or a strep test which have made doctors visits even that much harder. She hates anything they do that has to do with them poking something at her. When she got her flu shot it took 2 nurses and Benjamin and I to hold her down.

Bust a Move

Emma Claire came in the kitchen last night and told me she was going to 'bust a move'. Where does she get these things?! Silly girl.

Happy Valentine's!!

Last night Emma Claire and I started out Valentines by making Daddy homemade cards and making him his favorite chocolate oatmeal cookies.

I was so proud of Emma Claire for making her card all by herself! She asked me to write down 'Happy Valentines' and then she wrote it on her own paper. Go, Sissy!

Emma Claire woke up excited about going to school today because 1. it was her valentine's party and 2. it meant it was another day closer to her birthday party!

The first stop was Emma Claire's Class Party:

This is pure Sweetness all the way around!

Next stop was Camp's Class Party:

They got to eat some yummy fruit and cookies!

Camp and Tucker were just being plain silly! They crack me up!

Once we got home Emma Claire couldn't wait to dig into her Valentine Bag! Click Here to watch a cute video of her reading each one. I was actually shocked that she could read each child's name by herself to know who it was from.  She and Camp also got a treat in the mail from Poppa and GG. Thank You!!

When Emma Claire got up from her nap she got another special treat! While I was cleaning out the van this afternoon I decided to take her straps off of her car seat so that she could start using it as a booster seat. Can you tell how excited she was!?!? She was also excited that when Daddy got home from work he loaded us up and took her to Sonic to a milkshake for her Valentine Treat from him. She was thrilled about her first ride with the seatbelt! *I just hope she always stays this excited about wearing a seat belt! : )

After bath time tonight I found these two upstairs practicing their guitar skills. Isn't this just precious? The videos of them are even cuter. Click Here for Video 1, Video 2, and Video 3.

I think our Valentine 2011 was filled with joy, love, and treats! Thank you, Jesus, for my precious family.

**I'll add the videos once they stop uploading.
