O, Be Careful Little Mouth What You Say
Emma Claire has really gotten into repeating things we say. At dinner tonight she had eaten some eggs so needless to say they were all over the floor. As I was getting up from the table I saw the mess she had made on the floor and said, "O, Laurd" , in a long southern draw, and what did Emma Claire do? She leaned over from her high chair, looked at the floor, and said "O, Laurd, in a long southern draw. It was VERY funny to hear her say that, but it was also very convicting. You really learn a lot about yourself when you begin to listen to the mouth of your child.
Diaper Dance Off
Today in Music Emma Claire really had her dancing shoes on! At one point during class she kept pulling her shirt up and pulling at her pants like she had to go potty. I wasn't sure what she was doing but after several minutes had passed I noticed a huge white lump of something around her right foot. As she kept dancing toward me I realized that it was her diaper!!! She had danced right out of it and it had fallen down her pants leg and around her foot!! When she saw it she thought it was soooo funny and so did Mommy. I am just so glad that she didn't go potty while it was off. The story was even more funny when I went back and watched the videos I had made of her. In one she kept lifting her shirt because she knew something was wrong and in another she was lifting her leg because it was wrapped around her foot. How funny is that! Be sure to watch the videos and look at the pictures so that you get the full effect. : )

What's Your Name?
Emma Claire is convinced that her name is Baby and with her hard head there is no convincing otherwise. Tonight at dinner Benjamin & I decided to play a game with her. We would say peoples names and then she would repeat them. We did family, friends, pets, etc. She would repeat everything we said except for when we said Emma. We figured it would be easier for her to start with Emma and then add the Claire later. No matter what we did she would not say it. She would just turn her nose up, look the other direction, point to herself, and say "Babies". (everyone is plural to her : ) I don't know what we are going to do when we decide to have another child!

I Potty, I Potty!!!
At Emma Claire's 18 month check-up her doctor said he believed that she was ready to begin potty training. She had started showing interest in the potty and she tells you either right before or right after she messes her diaper. So today I finally made the trip to the store to purchase her a potty. Of course it was such a hard decison to make because they have so many great options now. We settled for a middle-class one that plays music when you go potty. It was so sad to think she was old enough to start using the potty like a big girl.
When we got home from the store she had fallen asleep in her carseat so I put her straight to bed for her nap. While she was asleep I put everything together so it would be ready for her when she got up. The plan was to just let her see it, sit on it, and begin talking about what it was for. I was not at all ready for what happened next. I went in to get her up from her nap and her diaper was FULL. I changed her diaper and took her into the living room to see her new potty. (I had mopped the bathroom while she was sleeping so I had to improvise) She was so excited. I explained to her that we "shew-shew" (that is what we call pottying) on the potty and that she needs to tell mommy when she needs to go. I took her diaper off and let her sit on it for a minute and then she insisted that mommy needed to sit on it too! : ) I thought that was going to be that. I placed the potty in our hallway and went into our room to fold the laundry. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw her go sit on her potty (fully clothed) and the next thing I knew she came running into our room saying "Shew-Shew, Mommy, Shew-Shew!" I asked her if she needed to potty and she shook her head yes! I quickly felt her diaper and it was warm so I knew that she had just pottied in her diaper while she was sitting there dressed. Even though she wet her diaper while sitting there I was very proud of her for knowing what to do when she sat on the potty. I sat her down anyway without her diaper so she would begin to learn the concept and the next thing I knew she continued "shew-shewing" in the potty!! It was so crazy. I had just bought the potty today! Of course I know she may decide not to be fully trained until she is 3 years old, but I was so proud of her today. It was something brand new and she is quickly grasping the new concept. After we partied, sang, and got a sucker we got on speakerphone to call daddy. When he answered and I began to tell him what she had done she started yelling over me "I Potty, I Potty!!!". She knew she had done something great! She hasn't "shew-shewed" anymore in the potty by herself tonight but she is VERY interested. She tells us "potty, potty" and wants us to take her diaper off and she will sit there and then stand up and say "done". I am so proud of my sweet baby! I will keep you updated on our progress.

Mrs. Patty Cake & Socks
Emma Claire LOVES the videos of Mrs. Patty Cake. We only have one but she wears it out watching it. She has learned all the songs on it and will even count to seven with them on the video. She dances around the living room jumping and singing with the children. For the last couple of weeks Emma Claire has been stuck on wearing her socks on her hands. She puts them on herself and claps her hands. Until today I didn't understand where she got it from. This morning she put the socks on her hands and started clapping and singing the songs from Mrs. Patty Cake. It hit me that she was imitating her! Mrs. Patty Cake wears white gloves and waves her hands in the air doing motions while she sings. I can't believe that it took this long to figure it out. It's amazing how much she picks up everyday. I am so proud to be her mommy!

Poll Results: Saturday Emma Claire will be a Flower Girl in my cousins wedding. Will She ...
We made it through the wedding!! Yea! It was beautiful and Chelsey was beautiful. After we ran through the ceremony 3 times in dress rehearsal Emma Claire was just about over the whole wedding thing. By Saturday she didn't want to do anything but play outside. I think she was only in one or two pictures because she kept telling us she was done and crying. When it was time for Emma Claire to walk down the isle in the ceremony she was outside playing and didn't want to come in. They brought her in and pointed down the isle where I was standing and she slowly started walking (and whimpering) down the isle. When she realized that everyone was looking at her she took off running to me. It was really funny and cute. I held her on stage for a few minutes but she wouldn't quit talking. She kept saying "Please, Please" (so I would give her more gum) and talking to Pops (who was performing the ceremony), and talking to herself. I finally just slipped out with her so she wouldn't distract everyone. It worked out fine because I got slip right back in during the prayer. It was a beautiful ceremony and Emma Claire didn't disrupt them too much.

Poll Results: What will be Emma Claire's Favorite Activity at School This Year??
Everyone seems to know Emma Claire very well. Her favorite class hands down is Music & Movement. She loves to get in there and dance with her classmates. Even when her teachers take her on a walk with her friends every time they pass by the classroom Emma Claire does a little shimmy with her shoulders. I have no clue where she learned to dance like she does. Even after dinner at home she starts saying "Sing, Sing", "Dance, Dance". It is so funny! She wants us to turn the record player on and we dance to some Elvis. It's a great workout!! : ) Love to All!

Amen......Sorry
As many of you know we have been going through our terrible two's early with Emma Claire. I have dove head deep into disciplining books and reading through Proverbs to see what God's plan is for disciplining our children. The other night we were out with some family and Emma Claire got really upset when she was told "No" when she wanted to go up some stairs. The fit turned into a tantrum so in turn she got a spanking. I then took her to a private room and told her that she had disobeyed and we needed to pray and ask God for forgiveness for how we had acted. We quickly said a couple word prayer and when we were finished I said "Amen". To my surprise she followed with saying "Amen" and then lowered her head and said "Sorry". It was the sweetest thing I had heard and I honestly don't think she was saying it to me. I think she had heard me telling God that we were sorry and she was in turn telling Him too!

Funny Things Emma Claire has Done Today
Funny things Emma Claire has done today:
*When I was cleaning up the bedroom this morning I picked up Benjamin's towel that he had left on the floor and asked Emma Claire if she would take it to the bathroom. She not only took it to the bathroom, but she opened the closet door where the laundry was and put the towel in the basket! I love having a helper!!
*Emma Claire and I were sitting in the floor this morning reading books and watching The Little Mermaid and she kept looking at the TV, pointing, and saying "Funny! Funny!". Isn't that the sweetest.
*At lunch I gave Emma Claire a bowl with English Peas in it (her favorite) to eat for lunch. She started to pour the peas out of the bowl and I told her she was not allowed to dump them out and if she did that would be disobeying and she would get into trouble. I went on about my business straightening up the kitchen and turned around and Emma Claire was taking the peas out of the bowl one by one and laying them on her tray. I only told her she wasn't allowed to dump them. She is way too smart!

Emma Claire: You are well on your way to "out-smarting" your parents. I'm so glad your Mommy is writing all the journals. You will love reading them when you're older.

Emma Claire's Wonderful Teachers
I just wanted to take a minute and brag on Emma Claire's wonderful teachers. Kelly & Donna have already been such a blessing in taking care of Emma Claire and I know that the rest of the year will be wonderful as well. As we all know, Emma Claire is VERY Strong-Willed. I have just finished a wonderful book called Don't Make Me Count to Three that I think will be very instrumental in Emma Claire's behavior. It deals with issues of the heart and what is the basis of her behavior. Examples, Why is she throwing a temper tantrum because she didn't get her way?, Why is she responding in a Disrespectful way?, Why is she not sharing with her friends? -It's because she is a sinner and we have to teach her the correct responses using the Word of God. We need to ask her heart probing questions on why she is responding the way she is and then show her how she should respond that is pleasing to God. This does not mean that she will not be getting a spanking, but she will also be taught to understand what she did wrong and how God wants us to correct it.
I said all of that to say this...Emma Claire's teacher, Kelly, also just finished reading this book. I consider it a great joy knowing that she will also be using this type of correction with Emma Claire at school. They are not allowed to spank, but she will be able to help in correcting her when she has done wrong.
Kelly and Donna are both seminary wives and I think they will be great with Emma Claire this year. They have both told me that they have their own Strong-Willed child so it will be nothing new to them.
I know the title of the book may be a little bit confusing, but it means don't make me count to three because God wants us to have immediate obedience. We need to obey Right Away, In the Right Way, and All the Way.
Please pray that we will have consistency in disciplining Emma Claire and that we will have wisdom in correcting her.
Can I just say that I love my husband, who will also be aiding in this task, and my sweet baby girl!

I Want My Mommy!
The last two weeks Emma Claire has been very clingy to Mommy. She won't hardly let me out of her sight. It is to the point where she won't let anyone have anything to do with her at all. Friends say it's just a phase and that their children went through the same thing. This morning started like any other morning but when it was time for Benjamin to go to work Emma Claire wanted nothing more than to love on him before he left. It was so sweet to see her laying her head on his shoulders and saying "Daddy" softly. Of course, Benjamin took advantage of that love and even stayed home a little longer to be with her. Then when we got to school she saw Sara (a friend of mine at work) and and took off running for her to hold her. Maybe we are moving out of this clinginess! Yea! : )
On another note, Emma Claire has started sounding a little hateful when she tells someone "No!". On the way to work this morning I was explaining to her that it was okay to choose to tell someone "No" if she didn't want to do something, but she need to do it in a polite way. We practiced saying "No, Thank You" over and over as we drove to school. Of course, she thought we were playing a game. When I would say "No" she would say "Thank You". This afternoon when I went to pick her up from her class her teacher told me that she told someone "No, Thank You" today. How great was that!! We had only worked on it this morning but it seemed to have stuck. I just pray that it continues.
She is growing up way to fast!

My Girls, BQ
We all know that Mom's don't receive the respect and appreciation they deserve, so this is a humble attempt to say how wonderful is my beautiful wife, and how precious is our little girl. In the midst of a very busy time in life, I'm constantly reminded how grateful I am for my girls. To come home from work and see a beautiful little red-head dashing to the door threatening to break the glass to greet daddy, and a gorgeous brunette smiling almost as big waiting for a hug and kiss is truly a great gift from a great God. I love you girls!

Poll Results: How much did Emma Claire weigh at her 18 month check-up??
Okay, so nobody won on the poll for what Emma Claire weighed at 18 months. BUT, don't feel bad because even her mommy thought she weighed more than 27 pounds!
We had a great visit and Emma Claire behaved very well. Dr. Dirk said that she was doing wonderfully and was very funny and busy. She kept him moving and laughing the whole time he was in our room. He said we definitely needed to make sure we never let her out of our sight.
Emma Claire was 33 1/2 inches tall (92%), 27 lbs 12 oz (90%), and her head was 48.7 cm (95%). She did get one shot, but the tears didn't last very long. She received a little love from mommy and then was ready to put on her backpack and tell them "bye, bye".
He did say that the next few months would be the toughest for her with her asthma. Please pray with us as the weather begins to change that her little body would stay strong and her medicine will continue to work.
P.S. Here's a funny from the Doctors Office. Dr. Dirk got out his light to look in her ears and she smiled and said "CHEESE"! : )

Ashey, Ashey
Out of no where Emma Claire has started walking around the house calling for "Ashey Ashey", but when she finds me it turns into "Mommy, Mommy". I'm not sure where this came from but it is very funny. I have tried to get a video of it but haven't caught her in the right moment. Keep a look out on the videos because I will post it as soon as I do.

Breakfast
Breakfast with EC is always an adventure, and yesterday morning, Sunday of all days, was no different. But thankfully, yesterday's adventure was fun and, believe it or not, didn't make us late for church. I had given EC blueberry muffins for breakfast and was watching her eat while I administered her breathing treatment. She gladly ate about half of her muffins, then she put the remaining pieces in a pile in the center of her tray. She scooped them up with both hands, put them back on the paper plate I had used to fix them, cleaned off her hands and said, "Thank You." In short, she had eaten all she wanted, cleaned up her spot, and was thankful for the service--no tip though. She's getting so big! BQ2

PackPack
Today finished up our last day of Teacher Orientation before school starts next week. We had such a wonderful time! Emma Claire loved being back in school and being with her friends. This afternoon I went to the door to pick her up and she took off running to the door saying "Mommy, Mommy"! It completely made my day. Before we left I told her she need to get her Backpack and Lunch Box. She ran back into her room, put her backpack on and carried her lunch box as she said "Bye", in complete southern draw, to her teachers. On the way out we saw her two new teachers for this year and I was talking to her about who they were and asked her to say their names. She did a wonderful job saying "Donna" & "Kelly" after me. Then someone asked her what she had on her back and she said "PackPack"! It was hilarious. Then they asked what she had in her hand and she said "asldkljl Box". (It was a made up word.) She is learning soooo many words that I didn't even know that she knew. She is so amazing and I am loving being her Mommy.

Things I Always Want to Remember About Emma Claire
Things I always want to remember about Emma Claire: (Thanks for the idea Rachael!)
*How she has learned to say "Peas" and knows exactly when to use it to get what she wants!
*How she has started to refuse wearing some of the shoes Mommy picks out by saying "No, No, No, No" and then picking out the ones she wants to wear.
*How she reaches for RaRa through the computer and cries because she doesn't understand why she can't get to her.
*How she says "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy" over and over just to make sure that I am paying attention and that I am there.
*How she says "Dadd-Y" so dainty.
*How she will sit there and carry-on a whole conversation with me and I have no clue what she is saying.
*How she says "Ose" for Nose.
*How she always says "Nite, Nite" when you lay her down in her bed at night.
*How she runs after her Daddy outside because she doesn't want him to get out of her sight.
*How she cuts those big round brown eyes up at me when she knows she is getting ready to do something that she is not suppose to.
*How she loves to come and hug me and pat me on the back while saying "Mommy, Mommy".
*How she keeps her back straight when she runs.
*How she speaks to everyone she meets and usually blows them kisses! : )
*How she says the names of her two dearest friends "Sila" and "Leu" for Silas and Leah.
*How she stands at the door and cries to go "side" and play.
*How she takes off running everytime the air conditioner kicks on outside because it scares her to death.
These are just some of the sweet memories that I never want to forget about my sweet angel.

This is a neat idea Ash. You think you'll never forget all the little things but life happens sooo fast it gets away from you.

My Little Social Bug
Emma Claire is so funny when it comes to meeting other people. She never meets a stranger. Wherever we are she always waves at every person that walks by and says "Hey!" Last night mom and I were sitting on the porch of a coffee shop downtown and Emma Claire was waving and yelling "Hey!" to a man walking down the street. Next thing I knew she was also blowing him kisses. I love it! I hope she always stays so outgoing and friendly!

EClaire - Very soon, your parents will need an "I'm not responsible for anything she says" DISCLAIMER just like GG had for your Daddy.

Ra-Ra & Daddy's Birthday
On Thurday night mom (RaRa) flew in to stay with us for a few days. We have had a great time! On Friday we went to have Emma Claire's pictures taken at Olan Mills and then Saturday we went to the park for a friends birthday party. Sunday was Daddy's birthday so after church we took him to Winston's to eat lunch. Then on Monday and Tuesday Emma Claire stayed home from school to spend the day with her RaRa. It was really funny to me to hear her running around the house calling for RaRa instead of Mommy or Daddy. It was actually kind of sad to me. I know she will always need her Mommy but sometimes she just wants someone else for a while. I think she just knows who to go to, to get what she wants!: ) What else are grandparents for!?

RaRa had a GREAT time with all three of you guys! Thanks! But I must say . . Emma Claire's new word "pleeeeeeeaaassssee" melted this ole grandma's heart. She is smart enough to know when to play THAT card (and it worked 90% of the time). I LOVED spending time with you Emma Claire AND your Mommy and Daddy. I LOVE YOU!! Grandpa will pick up where I left off in a few weeks I am sure!

New Words
Tonight we were just sitting at home in the floor playing and I thought I would ask her to name a few things around us. I was amazed at how smart she was and how much she knew. Here are some things she named when I asked her what they were...sock, shoe, balloon, light, horse, toes, belly, eyes, ears, nose. I know I would think she is the smartest thing ever no matter what she said, but I was blown away. She is growing up way to fast. Here are a few things she knows how to name: tree, flower, please, snack, juice, ice, cookie, cracker, ball, water, pool, book, baby, shoe-shoe ( which means I have a stinky on!), pup-pup, kitty-kitty,duck, bow,

Oh, Oh, Oh
The other day while Emma Claire & I were riding the 4-wheeler I decided to take a ride through the woods. It got a little bumpy and Emma Claire's head was bouncing back and hitting me in the chest. The next thing I knew she was holding her neck with both hands saying "Oh, Oh, Oh"! I thought it was hilarious. When we got back to the house of course she started whining and saying "Oh, Oh, Oh" while holding her neck. All she needed was for Mommy to kiss it and it was all better. Since then she has learned how to fake cry while holding her neck. How quickly they learn how to get attention.
One afternoon while we were at the beach Katie and I had laid the girls down for a nap and Ms. Cathy, Katie, & I waited in the living room till they went to sleep. The next thing we know Emma Claire is screaming bloody murder and saying "Oh, Oh, Oh,!!" We just knew something had happened because this was a very serious cry. Not the usual whine because she wants to get up. When I got in there to check on her she was holding her neck and screaming. I wanted to laugh at her because she was using great acting skills. I quickly gave her neck a kiss and then she was fine. Do you think we have a Drama Queen on our hands?
