One Of Those Days

Yesterday was just one of those days.

After school Emma Claire had a doctors appointment for some eczema that we haven't been able to get under control. First thing in the door they diagnosed her with what I thought was allergy eyes but instead it was pink eye. I'm still not a 100% sure that is what is was because it was never running, hurting, or bothersome to her at all. Nevertheless, we still got a prescription to take care of it.  After Dr. Waggner and I talked about meds and steps to controlling her eczema then came dreaded flu shot talk. Camp had already had the nasal mist at his 2 year appointment but because of Emma Claire's asthma she has to take the shots. To be honest I have put it off because I knew she would do exactly what she did yesterday. As soon as she heard the word shot she lost it. Screaming and yelling and crying worse than she ever has with any spanking. I told the Dr. we would go ahead and do it because whether I did it now or later she was going to have a melt down.

As we sat in the room waiting I did my best to console her singing to her, giving her a pep talk, and even asking her if I could pray for her to be brave and for the shot to go quickly and not hurt so bad. To that I got the response, "No, Mommy, I don't want you to pray for me to be brave I just want you to pray that I won't be scared in my bed tonight." I also asked her about making a deal to go get a milkshake when it was over if she could get the shot without completely losing it. She said, "No deal, Mommy, I don't want to make any deals". As soon as the nurse walked in the melt down went to a completely new level. The sweet nurse allowed her to sit in my lap as long as I could hold her down where she couldn't move. As Emma Claire is screaming and crying to the top of her lungs Camp is standing there with his eyes the size of quarters trying to figure out what in the world is going on. Just as the nurse pulled the needle up to poke her in the thigh Emma Claire's mouth flung open as wide as it could go to let out the most deathly blood curdling scream. BUT, nothing came out. She shut her mouth, sat straight up, and said, "That didn't hurt at all". The nurse and I got so tickled at her and how puffed up she was thinking that she had been so brave and the shot was nothing. During the process the nurse had also given Camp a band aide to stick on his arm and Emma Claire was confused to why he had gotten one when he didn't get a shot at all. I told her he got a band aide for putting up with all the unnecessary screaming and that his ears where hurting so he needed a band aide to help them feel better. As we packed up our things and walked out the door there were three nurses standing there with their mouths open asking us what in the world was going on in there. Emma Claire stood straight up and said, "I just got a shot and didn't cry at all!". Of course all the nurses began to laugh and asked her what all that racket was coming from her room then. They told her it must have been mommy if it wasn't you!  After we picked out our prizes from the treasure chest, Emma Claire quickly went and gave her nurse a hug and then hugged Dr. Waggner and told her she was her favorite doctor!

After we left the doctors office I was zonked and the kids were doing their best to survive during nap time. I couldn't wait to get home but we still had to go get the meds and of course our pharmacy was out so I had to drive around the world to get them. Once we got home I had even a bigger problem. You remember the pink eye? Well, yea, I had to go put eye drops in the eyes of a little girl who completely flips out when she gets water in her eyes.  Let just say we survived but we have to put them in twice a day for the next two days.

Stories like this just show that we are real and we live in the same chaos that everyone else does everyday. But you know what? I wouldn't trade it for the world!
