Emma Claire's Thanksgiving Feast

I can't say enough how much I love that I get to go to work each week with my kids. I awesome is it that I get to be with them everyday!?! This week Benjamin and I got to celebrate Thanksgiving with Emma Claire and the rest of the 4 year old classes. Each class did a little performance and then we got to enjoy a wonderful meal together.

Aren't their Mayflower's adorable!?! They also had made place mats for us to use. I love that Emma Claire put that she was thankful for God at the top!

Our Star Student

Guess who the Star Student is this week!!

Emma Claire was so excited to finally be chosen to be the star student. It really hasn't been that long, but for a 4 year old of course it seemed like an eternity. When you are chosen to be the star student you have certain responsibilities during the week. First of all you have to be the line leader all week long and you also have special projects to complete.

On Tuesday, she was to chose her favorite stuffed animal and book to bring to class. Her stuffed kitty is extra special because she received it when she was born at the hospital. The Carolina Hurricanes mascot was at the hospital delivering stuffed Build-a-Bears to the pediatric patients and, since we were on that floor because of overflow in labor and delivery, she received one, too!

On Thursday, she and I were to create a craft together that was "All About Me".  We chose to glue pictures on her black piece of card stock of her family and then write things on the back about her. She was so excited to tell everyone in her class about the pictures.

Here is the line leader in action!

On Friday, she was to bring in her favorite snack to share with her friends. You can tell that she is our child because the snack of her choice was brownies!

How can you make brownies and not lick the bowl?!

So proud of my star student this week! And I think she might be proud of those brownies!

Thanksgiving Feast with Camp

On Tuesday I got to join Camp in his classroom for their Thanksgiving feast. Can you tell how excited he was when he saw Mommy!?!

 Right: Prayer Time

Right: Cookie Time. Before Camp sat to have his cookie he went around and made sure everyone had their own cookie. I guess he thought he needed to pass them out. : )

Me and my sweet boy!! Happy Thanksgiving! I love you, Camp.

One Of Those Days

Yesterday was just one of those days.

After school Emma Claire had a doctors appointment for some eczema that we haven't been able to get under control. First thing in the door they diagnosed her with what I thought was allergy eyes but instead it was pink eye. I'm still not a 100% sure that is what is was because it was never running, hurting, or bothersome to her at all. Nevertheless, we still got a prescription to take care of it.  After Dr. Waggner and I talked about meds and steps to controlling her eczema then came dreaded flu shot talk. Camp had already had the nasal mist at his 2 year appointment but because of Emma Claire's asthma she has to take the shots. To be honest I have put it off because I knew she would do exactly what she did yesterday. As soon as she heard the word shot she lost it. Screaming and yelling and crying worse than she ever has with any spanking. I told the Dr. we would go ahead and do it because whether I did it now or later she was going to have a melt down.

As we sat in the room waiting I did my best to console her singing to her, giving her a pep talk, and even asking her if I could pray for her to be brave and for the shot to go quickly and not hurt so bad. To that I got the response, "No, Mommy, I don't want you to pray for me to be brave I just want you to pray that I won't be scared in my bed tonight." I also asked her about making a deal to go get a milkshake when it was over if she could get the shot without completely losing it. She said, "No deal, Mommy, I don't want to make any deals". As soon as the nurse walked in the melt down went to a completely new level. The sweet nurse allowed her to sit in my lap as long as I could hold her down where she couldn't move. As Emma Claire is screaming and crying to the top of her lungs Camp is standing there with his eyes the size of quarters trying to figure out what in the world is going on. Just as the nurse pulled the needle up to poke her in the thigh Emma Claire's mouth flung open as wide as it could go to let out the most deathly blood curdling scream. BUT, nothing came out. She shut her mouth, sat straight up, and said, "That didn't hurt at all". The nurse and I got so tickled at her and how puffed up she was thinking that she had been so brave and the shot was nothing. During the process the nurse had also given Camp a band aide to stick on his arm and Emma Claire was confused to why he had gotten one when he didn't get a shot at all. I told her he got a band aide for putting up with all the unnecessary screaming and that his ears where hurting so he needed a band aide to help them feel better. As we packed up our things and walked out the door there were three nurses standing there with their mouths open asking us what in the world was going on in there. Emma Claire stood straight up and said, "I just got a shot and didn't cry at all!". Of course all the nurses began to laugh and asked her what all that racket was coming from her room then. They told her it must have been mommy if it wasn't you!  After we picked out our prizes from the treasure chest, Emma Claire quickly went and gave her nurse a hug and then hugged Dr. Waggner and told her she was her favorite doctor!

After we left the doctors office I was zonked and the kids were doing their best to survive during nap time. I couldn't wait to get home but we still had to go get the meds and of course our pharmacy was out so I had to drive around the world to get them. Once we got home I had even a bigger problem. You remember the pink eye? Well, yea, I had to go put eye drops in the eyes of a little girl who completely flips out when she gets water in her eyes.  Let just say we survived but we have to put them in twice a day for the next two days.

Stories like this just show that we are real and we live in the same chaos that everyone else does everyday. But you know what? I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Love Nights Like This

You Give and Take Away

On Monday this is the post I left as my Facebook status...

God is so good and merciful in ways that we don't always understand, but we have to hold on to the fact that He is always in control. Last week He chose to bring our sweet baby (#3) home to be with Him. It has been hard and difficult, but we have to cling to the fact that He says, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD..." Our lives are not our own, but His, and He has orchestrated every part of it. Thank you all for your calls and prayers over the last couple of days. We have definitely felt them. God is still good.

This last week has definitely been one of the hardest in my life. Last Wednesday I began having some complications so I went to the doctor to make sure everything was okay and what they found was not what I wanted to hear. By looking at the ultrasound they couldn't find the baby anywhere.  Dr. Chawla said that it meant one of two things. One, I was earlier than they thought and the baby just wasn't developed enough to see on the ultrasound, or two, I was in the midst of having a miscarriage. I have to tell you when I first heard the news I was in shock just sitting there in a gaze. It wasn't until I got to the car that I completely lost it. Was I really losing my baby?

After that it was 5 days of sitting and waiting to find out exactly what was going on. They took blood work on Wednesday and Friday to see if my hcg levels were rising or falling but we wouldn't hear the results until Monday.  I can't tell you how God comforted and blessed me over the weekend. It was so, so hard to just sit, be still, and wait. What I began to see was that before I even knew what was going on God began to prepare my heart for this time. Below is the email I sent to our small group explaining God's goodness over the weekend...

Small group family,

I wanted to thank you so much for your prayers over the last couple of days. It has been very tough but we have definitely felt your prayers. I continue to cling to Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

God had already began to work in my heart earlier this week with the verses Jake had asked us to bring to group on Tuesday night. The verses I had meditated on were Philippians 4:4-7, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard you hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Those verses have been so good for my heart as we wait to find out the results of our tests. I went in again this morning for blood work but we won't know the results until Monday. For those of you who don't know what is going on I went into the doctor on Wednesday but they could not find the baby on the ultrasound. There could be two reasons for this. One, I am not as far along as they thought so the baby is not developed enough to see or two, I have had an early stage miscarriage.

I cannot tell you how good God has already been in this. I have had my hard days but I am continually reminded how good God is and how much he has blessed our family. Only he knows what is best for our sweet baby.

We haven't told many people about this other than family and our small group family until we hear the results of the test on Monday. We covet your prayers this weekend as we wait to hear the results of the test. The waiting is the hardest and I am so thankful for my wonderful husband who has loved me so well through this. You men would be proud of him.

I am so thankful for each of you and your sweet emails and phone calls of encouragement. They have really ministered to me more than you will know. We will do our best to let you know the results on Monday when we find out.

Love you all, Ashley

Since the beginning of this trial I have definitly had good moments and bad moments. Sometimes I will be comepletly fine and then the next thing I know I am wallowing in my own tears. What I have come to realize is that God is sufficent and He will provide the comfort we need as we face these trials. On Monday, when I received the phone call that we had lost our baby I can't tell you how I felt. It was like this overwhelming peace. My baby was okay. My baby was in Jesus arms and loved more than I could ever love my own child. It's been tough everyday since then, but I can honestly say that I'm okay. I will probably have moments for the rest of my life when I think of my sweet baby but one day we WILL meet again. : ) I have faith in that.

On Sunday at church the praise team sang the song Blessed Be Your Name by Matt Redman.  The song was exactly what I needed to hear and was such a blessing to my heart.

Blessed Be Your Name

In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

I have been so thankful for husband through this. He has been so good to me and there for me through everything. He has loved me well and taken time to be there as we move through the healing process together. He has done so well explaining things to Emma Claire in ways that she can understand and have faith that God is still good. He has been a ROCK for our family.

I am also so thankful for all of the love and support we have gotten from our family and friends. It means more than they will every know and we love them all so much!

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

Halloween Night 2011

On the night of Halloween it came a huge monsoon! The kids didn't seem to mind that they had to cover their costumes as long as we were still going out trick-or-treating!

Right: Camp decided to take the whole basket of candy at Terry & Cindee's.

The neighbors were so sweet to give them treats!

They loved these glasses they scored!

We even took a quick trip over to Mr. Brown's.

Left: These two love each other so much! Right: When we got back home Emma Claire was so excited to welcome the trick-or-treaters!

She had to have everything lined up just right.... candy, treats, & tracks. She even emptied her own candy basket to start handing them out to others. Then she started dragging out toys from her room to pass out. This girl was hard core.

When she went to bed she set everything outside so that the late comers wouldn't miss out.  We had such a great night and all got good and wet!
