Camp's Birth Story

It was finally here!! It was the morning of September 21, 2009 and we were going to meet our son. We were told that the hospital would call us sometime between 5:00 & 8:00 am to tell us that our room was ready and we could head that way. Of course I was too excited and wanted to be ready for their call so I was up at 5:15 getting ready and cleaned up for the big day. At around 6:15 we got the call that they were ready for us and asked if we could be there around 7:00 to get things going. I had told them that we would do our best but we lived quiet a ways from the hospital so we would do our best to get there as soon as we could. Of course we didn't make it there until about 7:45 by the time we got through the morning traffic and into the hospital.

Headed to the hospital to meet our son!

When we arrived we met our wonderful nurse Amy and, boy, was she great! We could not have asked for a better nurse.

At 8:45 am, Dr. Chawla, the doctor on call, came in to begin the induction process. I was still dialated to a 2 and a half, 70% percent thinned out, and Camp had dropped to a -1 station. She said we would go ahead and start the pitocin and she would break my water so things would begin to move right along.

At 11:25 am, I had dialated to 4 centimeters and the contractions were getting A LOT stronger. I was concerned that if I went ahead and got the epidural that things would begin to slow down and I really didn't want to make the labor any longer than I had to. However, our nurse, Amy, assured me that they had done research on the effects of the epidural and even though it was believed to slow the process of labor, it did not effect it at all. So, needless to say, we told them to bring on the epidural.

Updating Facebook! : )

At 12:45 pm, we had hit 6 centimeters!! It was now beginning to get very excited because we knew our son was almost here. They did begin to slow down the pitocin because the contractions were very strong and only a minute a part. She said that was too close for comfort without me being 10 centimeters.

At 3:15 pm, the contractions were a lot more intense and I could actually feel the baby moving down the birth canal. Just as I turned to tell Benjamin he needed to go get the nurse I felt a big gush of fluid and the Doctor and Nurse walked in the door. I told them what I was feeling and she said it sounded like it was time to get things moving. Dr. Chawla quickly checked me and I was completely 10 centimeters dialated! YEA! Dr. Chawla walked out to get things in order and Amy began to prepare the room for Camp's birth. She told me to go ahead and do a practice push while she was getting things ready and the next thing I knew she was saying "Wait a minute the baby's coming, Don't push!" She called Dr. Chawla back in and I immediately began to push. After two pushes I looked up at Benjamin and his eyes were the size of half dollars. He turned and looked at my mom and said, "Do you see that?" His head was already out!!! Camp was already here. I pushed two more times and out came his little, well, big body. : ) I couldn't believe how quickly he came. It took five minutes and five pushes and it was all over with. With Emma Claire I pushed for a little over an hour because she was flipped sunny side up and it was harder for her to make the turn to come out. My mom, made the comment that she felt like we ordered him off of a fast food menu because it all happened so fast. : )

No one could believe how big little Camp was. He measured in at a whopping 9 lbs 7 oz and 22 inches long. Not what I had expected at all, but he was amazingly beautiful. He had a more olive skin complextion than Benjamin and I, he had a little bit of hair just like his sister did, and he had a little dimple in his chin. Actually, he looked identical to Emma Claire when she was a baby. By looking at pictures you can't tell the two apart.

We had sent Emma Claire to school that day so that she would keep in her routine and so that my mom and dad could be at the hospital with us. Our great friend, Susan, took her home after school to play until Camp had arrived. After we had gotten settled into our room Susan brought Emma Claire up to the hospital to meet her new brother. You will have to watch the video to see how sweet she was. She kept asking to see my tummy because she was trying to figure out what had happened. She loves him so much and is going to be a wonderful big sister.

We were so greatful for all of the wonderful blessings God gave us. A wonderful delivery, a great hospital stay, wonderful nurses and doctors, and amazing food! (I love the food they have at the hospital there, ; ) We were all able to come home on Wednesday and can't wait to begin this new adventure with two beautiful children.

She got a new camera so that she could take pictures of Camp just like we were. : )

We're going home!
