Reflections on the Kids By: Benjamin

I’ll be brief, but I want to offer a few reflections on the kids.

Emma Claire is becoming quite the little girl. Her dictation is improving—Wa Wa is now Ra-Ra—and her vocabulary is broadening—she told a small crowd of students last week that she is “Caucasian.” She is also beginning to grasp loving God and others. Just last night, I walked into her room for our good night ritual. I said, “Daddy loves you, sweetheart. Do you love Daddy?” She said, “Yep , and I love God, too.” Loving Jesus and loving our friends is starting to make sense to her. She asks questions about the Lord’s prayer that she now quotes from memory (even though she says “Give us this steak, our daily bread”), and loves to read about the sick man in her “Big Picture Story Bible.” She loves her little brother and tends to him like a little mommy. Waking her up each morning is the brightest way to begin the day.

Camp will be one year old tomorrow, hard to believe! I know it’s not cool to call a boy is “cute”, but he is. And tender hearted, too. It’s precious to watch his response when we scold him for throwing his cup on the floor, or getting too close to the fireplace. The spat on the hand or the leg hardly phases him, but the raise in our voice results in the fattest bottom lip you’ve ever seen and plenty of whimpers and tears along with it. And, as Ashley says, his smile will melt your heart. His mood is consistent; grumpy when he’s hungry and happily busy the rest of the time. You’ve never seen a kid walk on his knees better or faster than Camp. The kid can move (got that from me J) and the barriers in front of the stairs are a mere suggestion. He knows how to crawl over them and up the stairs before you can get out of the chair. Can’t wait to teach him how to throw the ball, run over a linebacker, hunt and fish, and, most importantly, to love Jesus.

Praise God for his grace to our family.
