Christmas! The Best Time of the Year!

We LOVE Christmas!

Every year we look forward to Christmas time and one of those reasons is because we get to spend an extended period of time with family. Unfortunately, this year we didn't get to see everyone because on our way to Mississippi both of our babies got sick.  We left North Carolina around dinner time on Wednesday night and during the night both kids started running a low grade fever. They had both had a clear runny nose and yucky cough for a week or so but never started running any kind of fever to go to the doctor with. When we arrived in Mississippi on Thursday morning Camp's fever had gone up and he would not get down and walk. At first we thought it was because he didn't feel well but then we realized he wouldn't put any pressure on his left leg. Any time we would try to get him to walk he would collapse on his left leg and just cry. Scary, Right!?!?! We had no clue what was going on. So we loaded both of them up and headed to the doctor at a quick med before everyone closed for the holidays. Their lungs sounded great which was one of my concerns with their asthma, but she did run a RSV test, Strep test, and did blood work. The Strep and RSV came back negative but their blood work came back with MONO! What!?! I had no clue. Camp's numbers were actually really high. She said that normal mono numbers were between 7-9 and his was 19. Poor guy didn't feel well at all.

After we talked over the sickness we then asked about Camp's legs. She checked his hips and legs for any bruising but we couldn't find anything. She said that if he didn't get any better we needed to take him to his regular pediatrician for a follow-up. He continued on the same for most of the day but by the end of the night we started getting him to put a little pressure on it. By the next morning he was limping around on it a bit and slowly getting better. Our diagnoses is that we think he may have gotten a cramp on it during our travels home. We only got him out of his car seat once to stretch and he seemed to cry a lot more this trip than he ever has. Don't you know this mommy just felt horrible!

Actually, by the next day you couldn't even tell the kids were sick. They were running around playing like nothing had ever happened. Camp was a beast for a couple of days from the oral steroid, but Emma Claire was a champ with all her meds.

Besides all the sickness with Emma Claire and Camp we have had such a wonderful time visiting family. We have gotten to spend time with most of our family and tried to get some rest time in, too. Actually tomorrow Benjamin and I are going to spend a couple days in Nashville, TN with Brandon and Hannah without our kiddos! I am super excited and can't wait to just hang out with them and enjoy Nashville. So thankful that the grandparents are willing to watch our kids so that we are able to get a break! Can't wait to see what fun things there are to do in Nashville for New Year's!

It's been a great 2010!!
